The only circumstances under which I would say that riding the Greyhound bus would be an option is if…you are dirt poor and have an entire summer to waste. Besides being cramped with some very undesirables, the bus takes forever to get from point a to b. For instance, to get from Miami to Orlando, which is approx 200 miles, it takes about 12 hours on the bus. I have used the services of the Greyhound bus a few times in my life while in dire situations. Once I traveled from Orlando to The Grand Canyon, that took over 2 days. Another time I traveled from Florida to California, that surprisingly only took 3 days, which is good time, but there so many creepy people on that bus that it was very tempting to get out and walk. Also, you must remember that you are responsible for making sure your luggage changes buses with you. The only way that I would recommend traveling on the Greyhounds is if you have a travel partner, makes the seating easier to lean on someone you know, and you want to see a lot of the USA very cheaply. If that is the case, you can buy passes that let you get on and off as much as you want for a certain amount of time.
